30 Preference

6.As far as I’m concerned,the best color is red.

Dialouge 1

M:Shall we have some soup first?

W:No,thank you.I don’t like soup.I’d rather have some fruit juice to start with.

M:Ok, and what about the main course?Which would you rather have

fish or meat?

W:Meat, I think.

M:Don’t you like fish then?

W:I do, but I want meat.

M:Shall we have some white wine then?

W:Yes, but I prefer red wine with meat.

M:What would you like for dessert?

w:I just want to have a coffe,I think.

M:Fine,and after dinner, shall we go to a disco?

W:No,thanks.I’d like to go straight home.I’m very tired.

Dialogue 2

W:I have to go up to London for a couple of days next week.Would

you like to come?

M:That would be nice.How are you getting there?

W:Well,I prefer to go on the train,but I suppose you want me to

take the car.

M:Oh, I much prefer to go by car,then we don’t need to get to

the station with our luggage and...

W:And I’ve got to drive.You know I’m not fond of that.I found it much more relaxing to sit in the train.

M:Which is more expensive?

W:But very much quicker.But I know we’ll never agree on this

subject.You prefer the car.I prefer the train.

M:Have you ever thought of going by express bus?

Dialouge 3

M:There are so many record players here.That is hard to choose.

W:Look at this one.It has a radio and cassette player and built in speakers.

M:I’d rather get one with separated speakers.They give a clear sound

W:Yes, but we shouldn’t get any thing too big.Remember it has to

fit in with our living room furniture.

M:That’s right.Now this one looks alright? It’s a hetachee or do you prefer this one?It’s sony.

W:Let’s have the salesmen for a demonstration

Dialogue 4

W:Hello, Kith ,can you and Alice come around this evening?We

prefer your coming.

M：I think we would be able to make it.What time shall we come?

W:About 7 o’clock

M:Shall we bring any thing?Some wine?

W:No, not really.Just bring yourselves. We would like to your

presence.

W:Yes, sir.May I help you?

M:Please I’d like a ticket to New York.

W:For today?

M:No ,early saturday morning.

W:We have a flight that we’ll put you there at ten AM.Is that ok?

M:Nothing earlier?I prefer flight at 9:30.

W:I’m afraid not, unless you want a night flight.

M:No,exactly not

W:How about afternoon?

M:Sounds not good.I won’t take it .

W:Oh, I don’t like either.I prefer doing nothing.

M:Do you prefer painting or dancing?

W:Oh, I prefer painting,really.

M:No, I’ll have the fish please.

W:The chicken is also nice.

M:No, I want the fish.

W:Our special tonight is lobster.

M:Thank you, but I prefer the fish

W:Perhaps you’d enjoy the lamb

M:No, I like the fish.

W:What ever you say?

Well,if you accept that, you know ,there have to be shcools.It seems to work fairly efficiently.Of course, one of our great problems in American is that we have very large calsses and I have preference for ten.Hum, it will be very nice we could reduce that by at least half instead of there being 40 children in class, so that each child gets more individual attention
