一般現(xiàn)在時(Simple Present Tense)一般現(xiàn)在時也譯為單純現(xiàn)在時。

例A：I study very hard and Tom studies very hard, too.

(我很用功，湯姆也很用功。)

例B：The teacher is not in the classroom and the students are very noisy.

(老師不在教室，學生都很吵鬧。)

解說 如例所示主語為第三人稱單數(shù)時，一般現(xiàn)在時的動詞必須使用第三人稱單數(shù)形式，其他則除“be”以外都使用原形動詞(Root Verb)。

一般現(xiàn)在時的用法如下：

解說 文法上一般現(xiàn)在時所指的“現(xiàn)在(at the time of speaking)”其實其觀念并非是絕對的。這里所指的現(xiàn)在是在表明說話時存在著的事物，其時間領域含蓋著過去，也將延伸及將來。例如：

It is very hot today.

(今天天氣很熱。──如說話時間是在中午，本句話是在表明說話時“天氣很熱”，實際上“天氣熱”的現(xiàn)象在中午之前就已開始存在，同時也將延伸到下午。)

Dogs bark at strangers.

(狗看到陌生人就會吠。──這句話是在談狗的習性，說話時不一定有狗正在吠，而狗的這種習性可以追溯及遠古，當然也將延伸到將來。)

因此，一般現(xiàn)在時所指的“現(xiàn)在”可以圖示如下：

一般現(xiàn)在時常可作用如“today，this + time (this week, this year, …)，now，right now，at present，etc.”時間副詞來修飾。
